The Opportunity
The Project Accountant role directly assists in multiple enterprise activities. You will be responsible for setting up projects in our accounting system, certify for employee charging, revenue recognition and billing requirements. Additional responsibilities include maintaining project budgets and ensuring all job cost transactions are properly recorded and reconciling job cost to the general ledger.
What you will do?
- Setup projects in accounting system, Deltek Costpoint, certify for employee charging, revenue recognition and billing requirements; maintain project budgets
- Ensure all job cost transactions are properly recorded; reconcile job cost to general ledger
- Validate and direct job cost allocations
- Responsible for all A/R activities on assigned projects
- Review and approve accounts payable on assigned projects
- Inventory adjustments, manufacturing sales orders entry and maintenance
- Accounting for warranty and non-warranty repairs
- Liaison with sales, engineering, manufacturing, project management and lead project reviews
- Journal entries and Intercompany accounting and reconciliation
- Assist in project budget development and forecasting activities
- Maintain subcontractor compliance components for assigned projects
- Maintain compliance details for subcontractor paid-when-paid activities
- Review and approve employee expense transactions
- Review and process project related contracts and change orders
- Ensure timely reconciliation of project costs to ensure smooth month-end close
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, CPA or MBA a plus, but not required
- GMP contract experience and the accounting for substantial projects required
- At least 3-5 years of project accounting experience, construction experience a plus
- Relevant certifications and professional associations: CMA (Certified Management Accountant), CGMA (Chartered Global Management Accountant), APICS a plus
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Knowledge of FASB ASC 606 (“Contracts with Customers”) revenue recognition and deferred revenue
- General familiarity of IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards) helpful
- Ideal candidate should be detailed oriented and well organized
- Ability to communicate and work with project managers to establish budgets
- Experience with Discrete Manufacturing (project-based), also referred to as Job Shop
- Manufacturing, or Engineer to Order (ETO) Manufacturing
- Deltek Costpoint experience preferred. Similar ERP/MRP would be SAP, Oracle/JD Edwards, Infor, Syteline, Syspro, MS Dynamics o
- Deltek Costpoint Materials modules (Procurement, Manufacturing) experience a major plus
- Cognos business intelligence experience a plus
- International and multicurrency experience a plus, but not required
- Strong Microsoft Office skills including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Advanced Excel skills, pivot tables, lookups, etc.
