The Opportunity
The Fiel Service Solutions Specialist – Controls serves as Integra’s subject matter expert for Building Automation Systems (BAS), Building Management Systems (BMS), PLC-based control systems, and networked equipment controls used across our modular data centers and mission-critical environments.
Embedded across Integra’s manufacturing facilities (Akron, Harrow, Houston, etc.), this role ensures deep technical understanding of controls systems developed, assembled, and commissioned at the factory level. The Controls SME provides advanced L2 technical support, leads commissioning, troubleshooting, tuning, and integration efforts, conducts training, supports factory testing, and represents the Field Service team during complex customer or vendor technical discussions.
This role is essential to ensuring that Integra’s modular solutions operate reliably, efficiently, and in alignment with performance specifications—both at the factory and in the field.
What you will do?
Factory Integration & Controls SME Leadership
- Serve as the embedded controls subject matter expert at Integra’s manufacturing facilities to develop deep knowledge of BAS, BMS, PLC controllers, VFDs, networking, and system integration.
- Support factory acceptance testing (FAT), programming validation, and system simulations prior to equipment shipment.
- Provide technical insight to engineering and manufacturing on controls sequences, integration logic, and equipment performance.
Commissioning, Troubleshooting & Field Support
- Lead commissioning efforts for controls systems, including sensor verification, point-to-point testing, control loop tuning, alarm validation, and network configuration.
- Troubleshoot and repair sensors, actuators, relays, BAS/BMS network controllers, and control panels.
- Diagnose integration issues involving HVAC, electrical systems, generators, and other interconnected subsystems.
- Perform system calibration, logic adjustments, and functional testing to ensure sequences of operation match engineered design.
- Travel to customer sites as required to troubleshoot complex issues and support the field.
Remote Technical Support (L2)
- Act as the Level 2 controls technical escalation point for the Field Service team (L1 support handled by Technical Team Leads).
- Provide real-time remote troubleshooting, controls programming assistance, and diagnostic guidance to field staff.
- Develop technical documentation, troubleshooting guides, and best-practice standards.
Training & Technician Development
- Assist with factory-based training focused on BAS/BMS fundamentals, controls logic, wiring, sensors, calibration, and troubleshooting.
- Travel to job sites to deliver hands-on coaching and evaluate technician skill progression.
- Drive continuous improvement of technical training programs by updating content, incorporating lessons learned, and standardizing methods.
Client, Vendor & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Represent Field Service on complex client or vendor technical calls, ensuring proper communication, expectations, and escalation management.
- Work closely with engineering, project management, and QA teams to address systemic controls issues and support design improvements.
- Participate in turnover, commissioning reviews, and technical dialogues with stakeholders.
Recruiting & Talent Development
- Support interviewing for Controls Technicians and Field Service team members by evaluating candidates’ technical capabilities and problem-solving skills.
- Participate in onboarding and competency assessments for new controls-focused hires.
- Operational Excellence & Documentation
- Document all commissioning steps, troubleshooting findings, logic changes, and service activities with high accuracy.
- Ensure compliance with safety practices, engineering standards, networking protocols, and low-voltage electrical codes.
- Maintain tools, test equipment, and programming devices in proper working condition.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support operational and organizational objectives.
Required Qualifications
- 2–5+ years of experience with BAS/BMS systems, preferably Siemens, Johnson Controls, Honeywell, Schneider, Automated Logic, or similar.
